Converting your characters to pointcached mesh or animated vrayproxy is the best solution.

If option "steering will" not appear with your device, you can select "joystik". It is working for some models of steering wheels.

VrayScatter now compatible with Vray 2.2

It is interesting ideas, but unfortunately VrayPattern is a texture. It is close to displacement. Most of your ideas beyond of texture possibility.
