MultiScatterTextre render with Distributed Buckets (Solved)

Post by DSimmonds »

I'll begin with, I'm starting to think this is a bug...

I'm using 3dsmax Design 2013 64bit, latest version of multiscatter 1.1.10, and rendering with Mental Ray.
The aim was to use Distributed Bucket Rendering to speed things up for an animation, which for every other multiscatter object I'm using was fine. The problem as best as I can narrow it down, is the MultiScatterTexture node just doesn't work for Distributed Bucket Rendering. I end up with buckets working fine from my machine and untextured buckets coming from the other. For all intents and purposes the machines are identical, same versions of software/plugins and nearly identical specs.

Any suggestions or ideas or if someone wants to test this, it would be quite welcome.

If you want to replicate this problem its as easy as a standard material with MultiScatterTexture in the diffuse channel, scattered on a plane. Distributed render onto one machine or more and presto.

Anybody?

A quick list of things I have tried:

Setting everything to use UNC paths
Uninstall/reinstall multiscatter
Copy multiscatter dlo's directly to machine from my working machine
MultiscatterTexture dragged straight in (no textures, just the node)
Copying the texture I wanted to use locally
Restarting the machine

Have you copied all multiscatter files? That is ~10 different files in different locations.

Thanks for the reply. Yeh I did try doing that. Also tried distributed rendering on another machine that is all set up for it and normally will render just fine locally, but same results.

Your DR machine has C++ run time libraries needed for multiscatter installed?

Hi, sorry for the delay between responses. Been a bit busy leading up to the end of the year. I did check and then reinstall the latest c++ libraries. But the problem persists. So not solved sadly.
