Thought you might be interested to know that the new feature in VRay3 SP1 called VRayInstancer renders nearly twice as fast as Multiscatter. My tests involved a forest scene with 20,000 trees. The results were the same whether I used trees that were in the scene or trees that were x-refs. But, if the trees being scattered were VRayProxys, it was only slightly faster than Multiscatter.
I'm not mentioning this up to be an mean. I'm merely suggesting that you code your next version of Multiscatter to take advantage of whatever technology they are using if you can.
