Demo Version?

I have installed the latest Demo Version for SP3 on a 64bit machine, and cannot get VS to work properly.
The count doesnt change, the proxies show in viewport but do not render, and max crashes almost everytime i try to render.
The Demo version should work right? or must it be licensed to work, even as a trial?
