BUG! Use Surface Border + BB = 3dsmax adapter error (Solved)

Hi Karba,

I'm 100% sure! I fighted 3 days, but I found the problem on my scene.
My outdoor scene is very heavy. 100+ layers and It uses 23 GB RAM..
I use 3ds max 3013 with the last Backburner (not the last PU for 3ds max 2013, because this PU has some conflict with my useful script)
Vista 7 64

When I try to render the scene with BB and VRay (BF + LC), when LC starts to calculated, the node crash. I see the task manager and when the 3ds max crash (with BB) I'm on 15 GB ram occuped.
So, it's not a RAM problem. I read a lot on the website, but I never thought that the problem was MS. After a lot, a lot of test, I try to render one layer at time... When I turn of a forest layer with tree, all was ok!!!!
when I turn on again, BB crashed. FINALLY, the problem in in this layer. I turn on-off all the MS parameters and I found the problem: Use Surface Border!
If I turn off, all is ok.
Could you check if all is ok in your plugin?
PS: this costed me 3 days of work/test/install/unistall... Fortunatly, I don't format the machine and the node... :roll:

Why do you use LC?
use BF+BF
or Dome Light + BF.

uff... I don't know what is the problem, and I don't know if the problem is VRay, MS or 3ds max 2013, but try to read here:

By only save in 2011 format and render the scene in max 2011, without any change, all is ok! Incredible! I I know, it's a work around but better than nothing.
In the chaosgroup thread I put the link to the dump file. Soon (in 15 hours ehhh) the entire scene . Is 1.8 GB and and my upload speed is very slow.

Hi Karba,

I worked inside max 2011 (new geometries,models, proxy and multiscatter)... And after today, I had again a crash with the new work added!!!
Before, no problem. I don't know if the "today problem" with max 2011 is the same as the problems 2013. But this time I isolated the "bug" in the rose geometry multiplied by Multiscatter.

(*) With sphere OK
(*) with Proxy n°1 (bush): OK
(*) with Proxy n°1 (rose): OK: Crash!

etc.. see the screenshot

In this case, the problem was in the Multiscatter (leaf shader -> Normal map)
In this shader, we didn't use a VRayNormal, but Normal Bump

So, after my fight, will be useful a script that automatically, replace the Normal Bump with VRayNormal Map.
I think, my problem with the entire scene (1.8GB and 200+ shader) was the same. But it's very complicated an time consuming task check all the shaders to see there is this fuck Normal Bump!!!
I remember, some months ago (or years?? ) about a bug with MS + Normal Bump, but I forgot it!!!
I don't know if It's useful add a "warning" inside VRay Log about the shaders where this Normal Bump (if used) is.

Of cource. Standart Normal Bump don't work properly since VRayScatter.
Use VRay Normal Map instead.

Normal Bump is not working with VrayScatter MultiScatter. It is not working with VrayProxy also. It is 3dsmax-Vray problem and we can't fix it. Please use VrayNormalMap.

Hi Karba,
yes, now I remember. You wrote the same 3 years ago =) But I forgot. So, I don't know how, but why not add some "warnin" in Multiscatter to help the old user to remember or new user to know this bug. It's very stupid, like me, spent 4 day fighting with max :evil: , when the solution was so simple ;)
